In addition to a bill signed against TikTok some time ago , the state's governor, Greg Gianforte, has recently become restless and has set his sights on other popular apps.
It is understood that Montana Governor Gianforte believes that Temu, WeChat and Telegram are suspected of colluding with "overseas opponents" and hopes to drive these applications out of Montana. Janforte requested that before June 1 this year , no electronic device in Montana can download the above-mentioned application , otherwise it will be punished.
In addition to Temu and TikTok, Zhan Ford is also biased against Lemon8 and CapCut. It is understood that these two applications are also ByteDance's overseas apps, one is a photo social media platform, and the other is a video editing software.
In Janforte's view, perhaps the biggest fault of these apps is that they come from other countries.
However, Gianforte's statement seems difficult to stand up to scrutiny. According to The Verge, Temu is headquartered in Boston and its parent company is headquartered in Ireland, which is no different from many American technology companies. (Ireland has a very low tax rate and is a tax haven for many companies.)
According to insider speculation, Janforte's goal is to completely ban apps such as Telegram, CapCut, Lemon8, Temu and WeChat.
If the ban bill is passed by Congress, these apps may be banned across the United States in the future.
But before the ban is legalized as federal law, Gianforte's call in Montana to ban the apps is likely to face opposition as unconstitutional and censorship.
What's even more outrageous is that in the view of some US congressmen, these social software from China may even affect the US election process.
But the reality is that the political environment on some social media apps in the United States is even more murky. For example, the content on social media platforms such as Twitter seems to have not been reviewed at all, and all kinds of political conspiracy theories and racial discrimination can be seen everywhere.
In fact, American politicians’ attacks on overseas apps ultimately come down to data security issues.
US authorities pointed out that when using any social networking site, whether it is from the United States or other countries, users should pay attention to privacy and security issues. Specifically, they can reduce the occurrence of data leaks by reading the privacy or data policy of the website. Temu USA Disable |
