Recently , 13 sellers on the Amazon platform were jointly sued by Amazon and the WWE brand for selling counterfeit WWE ( World Wrestling Entertainment ) championship belts .
It is understood that these sellers sell counterfeit WWE brand championship belts on the Amazon platform , including WWE World Heavyweight, Universal, Intercontinental, United States and NXT championship belts.
WWE has been using Amazon’s brand registry protection tool to detect counterfeit belt products sold in Amazon stores . Amazon has now removed these counterfeit products , and WWE worked with Amazon ’s counterfeit crime department to identify the unscrupulous sellers and then directly initiated prosecution.
Amazon’s Counterfeit Crimes Unit is comprised of former federal prosecutors, former law enforcement officers, experienced investigators, and data analysts, and is designed to work with brands and law enforcement to hold bad actors accountable.
“Amazon is the benchmark for online brand infringement cooperation ,” said Matthew Winterroth, WWE ’s vice president of intellectual property . “ Officially licensed WWE products are trusted by fans around the world, and we will do everything we can to protect consumers from counterfeit products . ”
In addition to working with Amazon’s Counterfeit Crime Unit , WWE is also leveraging internal and external resources to combat the distribution of counterfeit and infringing products on e-commerce platforms and in physical stores . WWE’s internal staff and third-party vendors have been working hard to monitor intellectual property infringements at online retailers around the world , and Amazon’s brand registry protection tools can also help WWE remove suspicious items directly from Amazon stores.
In 2021, after Amazon collaborated with WWE to conduct investigations , more than 600 criminals were prosecuted or transferred in the United States, the United Kingdom, the European Union and China, an increase of more than 300% compared to 2020.
The sale of counterfeit products is strictly prohibited on the Amazon platform . In order to prevent counterfeit products from being sold on the platform, Amazon has invested more than US$900 million and employed more than 12,000 machine learning scientists, software developers, and professional anti-counterfeiting personnel.
In 2021, Amazon blocked more than 4 billion bad products from being listed in its stores . These product listings were suspected of being fraudulent, infringing, counterfeit, or other forms of abuse.
Amazon has always cracked down on counterfeit products on the platform, so sellers must abide by the platform rules and ensure that the products are authentic when selecting products to avoid causing serious losses to the store due to selling counterfeit products. Amazon Sellers Prosecution |
