According to information on the UK government's official website, the UK Office of Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) recently announced the recall of a number of children's products sold on e-commerce websites such as Amazon and eBay , including toys and toiletries. These recalled products and products restricted from entry by UK customs are all produced in China.
The first product to be recalled was the Huggy Wuggy plush toy , with the recall number 2205-0194 . The reason for the recall was that the product was not sewn tightly, and a small amount of stuffing might be exposed when children used it. If swallowed by mistake, it would cause a choking risk . In addition, the product did not have a label to indicate compliance with regulations .
OPSS believes that these plush toys do not comply with the requirements of the Toys (Safety) Regulations 2011 , advises British people not to buy or use them, and urges Amazon to remove the product from its online marketplace.
The recall information sheet shows that the product comes from China and is described on Amazon as "various plush toys similar to Disney or Marvel characters." Amazon has now deleted the listing of the product.
Just half a month before this toy was recalled, the same model of Huggy Wuggy plush toy produced in South Korea was also announced to be recalled. The recall number is 2206-0244 and the reason for the recall is as above.
It is reported that in addition to the recall and deletion of the listing, the plush toy has now been refused entry by British Customs, which means that the product will not be able to clear customs and be imported into the UK.
The second product to be recalled is the Babyway Infant Bath Seat , with recall number 2206-0367 , because the product does not comply with minimum safety requirements , namely the General Product Safety Regulations 2005 , and has been identified as presenting a drowning risk.
This product also originated from China. Currently, OPSS has announced a recall of the product and asked online platforms such as Amazon and eBay to delete related listings and prohibit sales.
The third product to be recalled is a mushroom teether with the recall number 2205-0217 . The reason for the recall is that the product poses a choking risk because the mushroom head can be flipped over to create a tight suction. If this suction is on the mouth of a child or baby, the child may choke , which does not comply with the requirements of the Toys (Safety) Regulations 2011.
The manufacturer of this product is a Chinese factory. OPSS has announced a recall of the product and reminded consumers who have purchased it to place it out of the reach of infants or young children or destroy it if they do not return it to the seller due to reasons such as inconvenience in return. In addition, OPSS has also notified e-commerce platforms such as Amazon to delete related listings.
Customs in Europe and the United States have always had strict supervision over imported products. Although the reputation of "Made in China" brands has improved in recent years, products from China are still their focus.
Sellers of related products should remove such products from the shelves as soon as possible to avoid losses. They should keep up with market demand and put hot-selling products on the shelves, but they should also pay attention to information such as safety feedback of the products in the sales areas .
