Annual revenue soared 49%! Amazon India's cross-border e-commerce revenue soared in 2021

According to foreign media reports, Amazon India Seller Service recently released its financial report for 2020-2021.

The report shows that Amazon Seller Services had financial revenue of 163.79 billion rupees in 2021, a year-on-year increase of 49%.

The division's total operating revenue was Rs 3,143 crore, down 7% year-on-year, while its total expenses amounted to Rs 3,098 crore and its net profit was Rs 430 million, up 132% from the previous year.

The division's operating income includes revenue from the company's sales of goods and services, as well as interest income from time deposits and other investments.

Amazon attributed the decline in its operating income to changes in government regulations. For a long time, local Indian companies and organizations have been opposed to foreign investment companies and have also put pressure on the government to ban foreign investment companies such as Amazon .

The Indian government has tightened norms for online retailers, making it difficult for these tech giants to expand their businesses with foreign capital, and brought these companies under the purview of FDI norms.

In June last year , India's Ministry of Consumer Affairs proposed a draft amendment to e-commerce rules, adding clauses prohibiting deep discounts and limited-time sales, aimed at strengthening supervision of e-commerce companies. The draft was strongly opposed by Amazon at the time.

In addition, in December last year , Amazon India said that the number of sellers on its website had exceeded 1 million, of which more than 90% were local small and medium-sized enterprises, and more than half of them were from second- and third-tier cities in India.

It is reported that since January 2020, more than 450,000 new sellers have joined Amazon, of which more than 100,000 new sellers have entered Amazon's local offline retailers and community stores through the "Amazon Local Store" program. The Indian site has gradually become a huge site in the Amazon market.
