Investing 70 million! ThredUp will build the largest distribution center

According to the latest news, ThredUp, an American second-hand e-commerce platform, will open its largest and most automated distribution center in Lancaster , with a scale of 600,000 square feet. It is reported that the investment in the distribution center has reached 70 million US dollars, and it will be able to store 10 million items after completion.

In recent years, the second-hand market has continued to generate business opportunities. As a giant in the second-hand fashion e-commerce platform, ThredUp has always been committed to the concept of sustainable consumption . They believe that second-hand goods play an important role in environmental protection. According to ThredUp 's annual resale report, by 2030, consumers will help reduce greenhouse gas emissions by about 143 million tons by purchasing second-hand goods , and the prices of goods on the second-hand platform are lower, so consumers can also save money.

The sustainable consumption concept advocated by ThredUp is being recognized by more consumers. According to reports, in 2020, 223 million consumers said they had or were willing to buy second-hand products, 76 % of consumers (who have not resold) were willing to try resale platforms , and one-third of consumers said they were more concerned about the sustainability of clothing after the epidemic. In addition, by 2030, one-fifth of clothing will be traded through a circular business model.

In addition to consumption concepts, such platforms also have advantages in consumer groups . The consumer group is mostly young people, especially Generation Z. For them, the frugality brought by second-hand platforms is not only a way of shopping, but also a lifestyle. Frugality symbolizes a deviation from the norm for them. They want to be independent, save money, and make money. They want to do these things by wearing clothes that cost less than $10, and second-hand platforms make it possible. According to statistics, 40% of millennials and Generation Z shoppers have purchased second-hand clothing, shoes or accessories in the past year.

In addition, mothers are also the key consumer group of the platform, and they believe that such platforms can reduce clothing costs. According to the survey, mothers will spend more money on second-hand goods in the next five years.

In general, second-hand platforms have unique advantages from consumption concepts to consumer groups. In recent years, the second-hand market has become hot and has broad prospects. Sellers who are willing can give it a try.
