On August 31, according to foreign media reports, a new coronavirus outbreak has occurred at Amazon's Troutdale factory in Oregon since May , and 345 PDX9 distribution center workers have been infected .
In addition, according to reports provided by the Oregon Health Authority (OHA) , the PDX9 distribution center has always been a relatively dangerous workplace, with a total of at least 500 cases since the outbreak of the pandemic. The emergence of this new round of epidemics has also made the PDX9 distribution center the workplace with the most cases in the state.
In fact, the Troutdale warehouse in Oregon has always had a bad reputation among all Amazon warehouses, and the outbreak of this epidemic has once again exposed the warehouse.
It is understood that as early as 2019, the warehouse was rated as one of Amazon's most dangerous warehouses. The Portland Mercury stated: "In 2018, 26 out of every 100 employees at PDX9 were injured." The World Socialist Website also pointed out in December last year that Amazon required PDX9 employees to sign a confidentiality agreement during the large-scale outbreak of the epidemic.
The nondisclosure agreements helped Amazon conceal the extent of the virus because any employee who provided information about the outbreak to the public could face costly lawsuits.
In addition to the confidentiality agreement, Amazon warehouse workers face other pressures. Amazon spokesperson Mari Boschetti revealed that Amazon recommends that workers get vaccinated, but there are almost no other workplace protection measures, which puts a burden on workers.
However, Amazon management did not respond positively to the workers' safety demands. Jeff Bezos even embarked on a space trip some time ago, which was considered ironic by many media.
It is understood that Amazon's profits have increased significantly during the epidemic. In the second quarter of 2021, Amazon's total sales increased by 27% to US$113.1 billion, and profits increased by about 50% to US$7.8 billion. Jeff Bezos' personal wealth also increased by nearly two-thirds to US$195 billion.
Currently, with the spread of the epidemic, the originally fragile Oregon medical system is facing tremendous pressure. It is not clear whether the PDX9 distribution center will be closed due to the second round of epidemic, thereby affecting the delivery of subsequent orders. Sellers are expected to pay attention to developments and platform notifications at any time to make relevant operational adjustments. Amazon PDX9 epidemic |
