Alibaba International Station will adjust its categories, involving six major categories

Recently, Alibaba International Station issued a notice that it will adjust the categories released on the International Station starting from the evening of June 29, 2021, and the adjustment is expected to be completed on July 7, 2021.

As for the reason for this category adjustment, Alibaba International Station explained that the existing product release category structure and classification method are completely unable to meet the requirements of the industry, making it difficult for members to find suitable categories when releasing products.

The scope of this adjustment mainly includes the following categories:

1. Packaging & Printing . It mainly merges categories with low commodity volumes, including Single-layer Plastic Bags, Other Plastic Bags, and Laminated Plastic Bags into Plastic Bags, and Packaging paper into Paper & Paperboard.

2. Gifts & Crafts . Split Promotional Bookmarks from Other Gifts & Crafts.

3. Lighting & Lighting. Separate Light Towers, Exhibition lighting, Sewing machine lights, Running & Shoes lights, and Indicator lights from Other Lights & Lighting Products; and refine Holiday Lighting.

4. Watches, Jewelry, Eyewear . Optimize the secondary category Jewelry and split it into Fine Jewelry and Fashion Jewelry.

5. Tools & Hardware: Optimize some categories with very small product volumes and merge them into Bolts, Screws, and Wrench.

6. Beauty & Personal Care . Optimize the eye mask category and split it into eye mask and eye mask; and optimize the beauty instrument category and split it into home use and commercial use.

The adjustment time and rhythm are as follows: From June 29 to June 30 , Alibaba International Station will launch new categories, change some paths and rename categories. From July 1 to July 6 , product migration will be carried out. On July 7 , the merchant side of abandoned categories will be blocked.

Judging from the content of this adjustment, it mainly includes two aspects: merging some categories with lower product volume; refining and splitting some categories with unclear classification, so that members can find suitable categories more easily when publishing products.

It should be noted that during the category adjustment period, the product publishing and editing functions cannot be used in the adjusted categories. After the category adjustment, the product attributes will also change with the category. The system will automatically classify the products involved in the adjusted category into the new category. Sellers can also re-edit the products and select the category after the category adjustment is completed.

According to past experience, category adjustments will have an impact on sellers’ existing products. The search rankings of products involved in category adjustments may also change after the classification changes. If the product search ranking drops, sellers need to pay attention to the sales information of related categories and continue to optimize information under the new category system to accumulate results.
