The latest report from research firm eMarketer shows that Amazon's share of the US digital advertising market increased from 7.8% in 2019 to 10.3% last year . Advertising revenue surged 52.5% month-on-month to $15.73 billion, with a market share of 10.3%. In the next three years, the market share will increase to 10.7%, 11.9% and 12.8% respectively.

 

The report also revealed that nearly 90% of Amazon’s advertising revenue comes from advertisements on the e-commerce platform .

 

Indian e-commerce company Flipkart is about to go public


According to people familiar with the matter, Flipkart, the Indian e-commerce giant owned by Walmart , will go public as early as the fourth quarter of this year , and the company's valuation is expected to reach more than US$35 billion. The relevant people did not disclose the scale of funds that may be involved in this listing, but according to previous reports, the company plans to raise US$10 billion from the IPO .

Its business scope includes health food, infant formula milk powder, daily necessities, ticket agency services and tourism development project planning and consulting. Shareholder information shows that the company is 100% owned by Vipshop Co., Ltd.

 

U.S. business groups plan to call for stricter antitrust laws


On April 7, according to the Chinese version of the Wall Street Journal, some business organizations in the United States are forming a national alliance to build momentum for the implementation of stricter antitrust laws .

 

The alliance wants to create federal law that would prevent a dominant online platform from selling both goods from other sellers and its own brand products that compete with those goods. If implemented, this policy would effectively separate Amazon's private-label retail business from the company's online e-commerce platform.

 

Global new ship orders increased by 157% in the first quarter


According to the Economic Voice of China Central Radio and Television, since the second half of last year, China's cargo trade has rebounded, driving a substantial increase in international shipping demand. Containers are hard to come by at many ports, and shipping rates are soaring. Experts predict that the current "abnormal" situation of hard to come by and high freight rates will be alleviated in May and June this year.

 

Statistics from the China State Shipbuilding Corporation Economic Research Center show that in the first quarter, the global cumulative new ship orders totaled 31.8 million deadweight tons, a year-on-year increase of 157%. Among them, European and North American shipowners ordered a total of 125 new ships, reaching 13.84 million deadweight tons, with a market contribution rate of up to 59%.
