Recently, the Russian e-commerce platform Wildberries (hereinafter referred to as WB) announced a significant reduction in commissions for electronic product sellers.
According to the news released by WB, the transaction commission for some electronic product categories will be reduced from 5% to 1%, and the applicable products are smartphones, laptops, computers, tablets, graphics cards, hard drives, monitors, smart sockets, and projectors. For other categories of electronic products and loaner appliances, the sales commission of the FBS program will remain at 5%.
Through the FBS program, WB's sellers can receive buyers' order information in real time and then deliver the goods to WB's distribution center. Since November last year, a large number of sellers have started to use the program for sales.
“The FBS selling program has been growing in popularity. The number of sellers shipping through FBS doubled in January-March this year,” said Vyacheslav Ivashchenko, development director at WB .
He also said that by reducing transaction commissions, sellers will significantly increase sales and reduce costs.
Clothing and footwear have always been WB's best-selling categories, and there are other reasons for reducing the commission for electronic products and home appliances. Data shows that the sales of electronic products and home appliances accounted for more than 2 times of WB's total sales in 2020, reaching 11%, and sales increased 6 times to 64,000.
Specifically, sales of this sub-category increased threefold to 46.6 billion rubles (about 4.01 billion yuan). Among them, sales of laptops increased by 342% year-on-year, monitors increased by 294% year-on-year, and smartphones increased by 155% year-on-year. The sales of graphics cards, whose prices have soared, on WB are also amazing. Last year, WB's graphics card sales soared by 662% year-on-year.
WB 's commission reduction seems to be an attempt to prevent its competitors from "snatching" sellers away. Earlier, another Russian e-commerce platform Yandex.Market said that from January 15, the commission for all categories of transactions on the platform would be reduced to 2%.
In addition, in order to allow sellers to make profits even if they sell cheap products on the platform , Yandex.Market has also revised the rules on minimum commissions. From January 15, the minimum commissions for FBY and FBY+ have been completely abolished.
Russian industry experts previously stated that under the temptation of such a low commission rate, WB is likely to lose some sellers because WB's commission is much higher than other platforms.
In any case, lowering the commission rate is good for sellers. Electronic products are also a hot-selling category in the Russian market, so sellers, go for it! Russia Wildberries |
