The international accounting firm PricewaterhouseCoopers ( PwC) pointed out in a report that Poland's e-commerce market will grow at an annual rate of 12% in the next five years, and is expected to exceed 162 billion Polish zlotys (36 billion euros) by 2026.
PwC data shows that the fastest growing sales on Polish e-commerce platforms will be in categories such as food, health care and beauty products. As the epidemic has affected traditional offline development, e-commerce platforms have been able to accelerate their development. In 2020, e-commerce sales accounted for 14% of Poland's total retail sales. Grzegorz Laptas , partner of PwC Poland , said that Poland's e-commerce market will maintain steady double-digit growth in the next few years, and nearly 85% of Poles said that they will not change their online shopping habits after the epidemic ends.
According to relevant data analysis, more than 74% of Poles said they would continue their previous level of online shopping after the epidemic ends, while 10% of respondents planned to buy more goods online.
Earlier, the global e-commerce giant Amazon announced the full opening of its Polish site. Industry insiders estimated that the development data of Polish e-commerce will grow rapidly as a result. Amazon Poland launched a localization plan in order to compete with the e-commerce platform Allegro Poland.
More and more e-commerce platforms are beginning to pay attention to the Polish market. PwC believes that this will create new sales channels and development opportunities for Polish small businesses and may even subvert previous sales models.
Before the outbreak, only 54% of Poland's 38 million people shopped online, but online sales of retail goods accounted for 7.2% of the total and were on the rise.
Polish consumers generally pursue a "value for money" consumption experience. Online shoppers pay close attention to shopping expenses. They are keen to compare prices, quality, and website brands, and are very interested in discounted products. In Poland, the top three online shopping platforms in terms of visits are Allegro, AliExpress, and Empik, all of which gain competitiveness by offering low-priced products.
At the same time, the opening and operation of international transportation routes such as the China-Europe Express will also help the development of Poland's cross-border e-commerce . It is expected that the Polish e-commerce market will usher in a new wave of development in 2021. The Polish e-commerce market is ready to take off and is full of potential.
