As traditional culture is valued, the Indian ethnic clothing market is expected to grow

Indian apparel brand Aditya Birla ( ABFRL ) has acquired a 33.5% stake in Goodview Properties Private Limited (GPPL), founded by fashion designer Tarun Tahiliani, for Rs 67 crore.

Under this partnership, ABFRL and Tahiliani will form a new entity that will launch a modern men’s ethnic wear brand . ABFRL will hold 80% stake in the new entity, while Tahiliani will hold the remaining 20%.

"In the next few years, ethnic wear will emerge as a significant category as Indians rediscover culture and heritage," said Ashish Dikshit, managing director of ABFRL.

Indian traditional clothing is more popular among the middle-aged and elderly, but as the country pays more attention to traditional culture, the acceptance of this kind of clothing has increased among young people, and the ethnic clothing brands launched for young people have driven the development of the market. Among them, the mid-to-high-end market has developed rapidly , and mid-to-high-end customized products are very popular.

Indian traditional national costumes can be divided into men's national costumes and women's national costumes, which have many subcategories. Indian men's national costumes are relatively simple. In formal occasions, Indian men will choose to wear Nehru suits (similar to Zhongshan suits). Indian men's traditional national costumes are mainly light-colored. In contrast, Indian women's national costumes are more colorful.

India's traditional women's national costumes are mainly divided into tight-fitting tops, skirts, pants, shawls, veils, etc. Different occasions have different wearing habits, but overall, women's clothing is more colorful, and in terms of color selection, gorgeous and bright colors are more popular.

In addition, Indian women's national costumes are decorated with eye-catching items such as sequins and tiny beads to make the clothes look more gorgeous. Therefore, the demand for these special clothing accessories is also strong.

In addition to Hinduism, there are also many Muslims in India, so traditional Muslim clothing also has a broad market.
