According to foreign media The Sun, a large number of false propaganda products that affect epidemic prevention and control have appeared on eBay UK recently . eBay is working with the British government and the Food and Drug Administration to rectify this phenomenon, and a large number of listings have been removed from the shelves.
It is reported that a group of scammers targeting vulnerable people have recently appeared in the UK. They sold an "immune-enhancing supplement" called "Echinacea Tablets" on eBay, claiming that it can fight the new coronavirus. The product description claims that they are "recommended for respiratory infections" and can provide "maximum viral defense protection."
When asked whether the product can prevent COVID-19, the seller replied that the product can help the user's immune system fight colds, flu and viruses. But in fact, this medicine is just a common cold medicine. The senior enforcement advisor of the UK Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency MHRA said: "No medicine has a sales authorization specifically for the treatment or prevention of COVID-19. Therefore, any product claiming to treat, prevent or cure COVID-19 is not authorized and cannot be legally sold or provided in the UK."
The pills cost a whopping £14.99 per bottle , with special offers for ordering multiples, but they actually cost a fraction of that. The price is the least of the scams, and to make matters worse, the drugs have not been tested and at best they don't work, and at worst they may contain dangerous ingredients.
Not only Purple Daisy, some snake oil drugs have also been falsely advertised as having the effect of resisting the new coronavirus, but the British Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency denied this claim and stated that there are currently no drugs that can be specifically used to treat or prevent the new coronavirus. After media reports, the UK Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) was aware of the existence of these counterfeit products and will take measures to remove them from eBay.
eBay responded that the listings for these products have been deleted, and eBay has expressly prohibited sellers from engaging in false advertising. A team will be set up to monitor such activities on the platform every day. eBay will also work closely with the MHRA to continuously improve measures in this area and continue to monitor the platform environment.
This is not the first time that such a thing has happened. Recently, eBay has deleted more than 700 listings in one go, of which about 500 listings were suspected of illegally selling the British government's "mask exemption" badge. Facts have proved that under the health crisis and high pressure, rumors are most likely to breed, and unscrupulous merchants will also use this to cheat, but in the end, there will be no good end. Losing money and accounts is a small matter, and serious ones will also bear criminal responsibility for this. listing E-commerce platform eBay Platform |
