E-commerce has successfully changed the way people shop . Amazon is a well-deserved giant in the e-commerce platform and a leading force in providing consumers with the best online shopping experience.
The United States has always been Amazon's main battlefield. In order to understand the extent of Americans' obsession with Amazon, UpgradedPoints conducted a five-day survey (May 2 to May 6, 2023) on 3,200 online shopping consumers from 44 states across the United States.
The survey shows that Americans spend an average of $91.75 per month on Amazon , of which Prime members spend $110 and non- Prime members spend $38. Tennessee is the state with the highest spending among members, with an average monthly spending of $124.22.
25% of Americans surveyed shop on Amazon once a week, and 51% only buy Prime products when they shop. The average spending of American Prime members on Prime Day is $117, with Generation X spending the most , at an average of $124 to $148. Americans spend between $1,101 and $63,000 per year on Amazon over their lifetime. Delaware residents spend $114 per month on Amazon , Wisconsin $113.66, and Iowa $113.46, which are also among the highest spending states on the Amazon platform.
The states with the lowest monthly Amazon spending were Indiana ( $72.87), Minnesota ($68.86) and West Virginia ($56.10).
The state with the most enthusiastic Amazon users is Alabama, with 36.5% approving and rating their obsession with Amazon between 7 and 10 ( on a scale of 1 to 10 ) . In second place is North Carolina, with 34.7% approving, similar to the former in terms of obsession . Michigan and Tennessee both have 34% approval, while Kansas and New Hampshire both have 31.4% approval of being addicted to Amazon shopping.
As for which generation is the biggest fan of Amazon, none beats Generation X, as they shop on Amazon once a week.
Americans spent the most on electronics and technology products, accounting for 54.5%. It was followed by clothing and accessories, accounting for 48.1%. Personal care/toiletries accounted for 41.5%, and kitchen and household essentials accounted for 40.5%. In addition, 33% of Americans said that they have spent more on Amazon this year than they have in their savings accounts.
In short, Americans have a soft spot for Amazon, mainly because they can get discounts from this website and the goods can be delivered to their doorsteps. And although they spend a high proportion of their shopping on Amazon, most of them buy daily or necessities. Amazon Prime Membership American Consumers |
