Towards Metaverse e-commerce! Amazon launches new immersive shopping feature

On May 9, Amazon launched a new immersive shopping feature called "Amazon Anywhere" , which allows customers to discover and purchase Amazon's physical products in virtual environments such as video games, augmented reality applications and mobile applications.

Currently, most shopping in the virtual world is done with virtual currency.

Amazon’s new feature is currently working in “Peridot , ” a new AR game from Niantic (the creator of “Pokemon Go”), which is now available for iOS and Android.

As players care for their virtual pets, they can access physical Amazon products in the game. After connecting their Amazon account to Peridot, users can purchase products such as T-shirts, hoodies, phone accessories and cushions printed with artwork from the in-game creatures.

Users can also view product details, images, inventory status, Prime membership, price and estimated delivery date in the new feature.

They can then click the "Buy" button in the game and check out through their linked Amazon account . The product will then be shipped like any other item purchased on the Amazon platform, and the order can be tracked and managed through the Amazon app.

“By working with developers like Niantic, we’re able to showcase new and innovative ways for customers to discover relevant products outside of traditional online stores, creating more immersive and engaging experiences in both the virtual and real worlds," said Steve Downer, vice president of consumer electronics at Amazon, in a statement. "We’re creating a new frontier in shoppable entertainment and digital experiences while continuing to delight our customers with the products they love.”
