In November 2018, Apple and Amazon signed a new agreement that allows Amazon to list the latest Apple and Beats products (an American recording equipment brand acquired by Apple in 2014), such as the iPhone XS and iPhone XR; in exchange, Amazon will remove all unauthorized third-party sellers selling Apple products on the platform.
About the New Agreement Amazon will obtain products directly from Apple and will be responsible for sales and shipping. Amazon will also list some products from Apple authorized resellers. Amazon's third-party sellers received a notice from Amazon on November 9, informing them that they must sell out all existing products before the platform removes all listings on January 4, 2019. Amazon recommends that sellers who want to continue selling Apple products on the platform take the initiative to contact Apple and become Apple authorized dealers. Tip: Sellers who become Apple authorized service providers must have a physical store for customers to visit, and they can only use official Apple parts. Currently, unauthorized sellers can still sell Apple products on eBay, Craigslist, or their own websites.
Impact Site The agreement will affect markets such as the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Japan and India.
Exceptions to the Agreement There is one notable exception to the new agreement: Amazon will not sell Apple's Home Pod. The Home Pod competes with Amazon's Echo smart speaker, which is a growth opportunity for Amazon in the voice computing and virtual assistant space. Amazon also does not currently sell Google Home speakers. |
