Two weeks after Amazon announced it would offer unbranded packaging to sellers using its fulfillment service as the default service for Amazon Multi-Channel Fulfillment at no extra charge, the company announced it would increase fees for Multi-Channel Fulfillment orders starting next month .
Amazon wrote in the announcement: " Starting January 19, 2023 , U.S. Multi-Channel Fulfillment fees will change as we make significant investments to increase shipping speeds and add new capabilities . Our Multi-Channel Fulfillment will continue to offer best-in-class fulfillment services at prices lower than our peers, with no additional fees for unbranded packaging . "
One seller said that means the cost of using Amazon's multi-channel fulfillment service will rise 37%. Now, the delivery price for a standard small 5-ounce package is $5.35, which will jump to $7.35 in January.
“I thought Amazon wanted to expand their third-party logistics, but apparently not,” the seller wrote.
Amazon also attached a table showing how the change will affect shipping costs for certain items . For example, the shipping price of a 2.88-ounce mobile device case ( small standard: less than 6 ounces ) will increase from $5.35 to $7.15 (a 33% increase) , and the shipping price of a T-shirt ( large standard: 12 to 16 ounces) will increase from $7.45 to $8.50 (a 14% increase) - if the seller chooses standard time 3-5 days delivery.
Amazon said the fee hikes will come alongside improvements to its delivery service , including faster deliveries, free app integrations , and upgraded tracking capabilities .
An Amazon spokesperson said: "We are excited to announce that we are reducing our standard shipping time from seven days to five days. We will also continue to offer expedited three-day shipping and priority two-day shipping. "
On the other hand , Amazon has also launched a new multi-channel delivery function that can be linked to website building tools such as BigCommerce, Wix and Adobe (Magento) , greatly facilitating independent site sellers to use its delivery function.
However , as early as May 9, 2002 , Amazon also raised the fees for its multi-channel distribution. At that time , it said that this decision was made after referring to the fees of other third-party logistics providers . Amazon Multi-channel delivery Price increase |
