Amazon users have recently been warned about a new type of text message scam.
Amazon said: "Scammers impersonating Amazon have harmed our customers and our brand . While these scams do not occur on our platform , we will continue to invest in protecting our customers and educating the public on how to avoid scams . "
Amazon said the scam text messages direct users to click on a fake login link that takes them to a fake website that steals private information such as name , date of birth, mobile phone number, home address and email address .
Amazon reportedly said : "We encourage customers to report suspected scams to us so we can take steps to protect their accounts and refer scams to law enforcement. Visit our help page to find more information on how to identify and report scams . "
After the incident was disclosed, Amazon said it had reported the fake URL to the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) . Despite this, Jack Moore, global cybersecurity consultant at ESET, said such scams would definitely happen again in the future .
Since Amazon is the world's largest shopping site, criminals inevitably target it and send text messages to every number they can get their hands on , whether or not the number is a user of the e - commerce platform .
"Clicking on the link in the text message may take you to a familiar-looking website , and like other scam text messages , this website will look indistinguishable from the real thing , " Moore said.
To deal with this type of danger, the security expert recommends that people must always be vigilant , do not read the content of suspicious text messages , try to use applications already installed on their phones , or directly visit the official website to check their accounts.
Moore concluded: " Giving out credentials such as bank card details or account passwords can expose users to significant losses with little or no chance of getting their money back . "
In addition, a few months before this fraud incident against Amazon users , Cisco Talos also disclosed a hacker campaign in which fraudsters set up a series of malware through counterfeit Amazon gift cards , causing damage to the rights and interests of Amazon users . Amazon Scam SMS |
