Amazon's latest policy! Nearly 450,000 ASINs will be removed

Amazon's latest policy! Nearly 450,000 ASINs will be removed

On the Amazon platform, products are often removed from shelves for various reasons, some of which are dangerous, some of which are due to complaints or non-compliance. This time, Amazon will remove a large number of products in the easily meltable category.

Yesterday ( September 6), Amazon US announced that Amazon will implement a new shipping policy for meltable products for self-delivered products by meltable sellers due to an increase in consumer complaints related to meltable products. Starting September 21, 2022, Amazon will remove all meltable ASINs and charge a removal fee for each item removed.

"Meltable" products are all heat-sensitive products, including but not limited to chocolate or gummies, and select jellies and wax-based products. Amazon's shipping policy is designed to protect the consumer shopping experience by ensuring that heat-sensitive products are received in satisfactory condition.

Judging from the list of meltable products provided by Amazon, there is no product name, description or other detailed information, only ASIN, and there are nearly 450,000 ASINs involved.

It should be noted that after this policy takes effect, if a merchant receives multiple complaints of melted goods, Amazon may remove the merchant's offer and suspend or deactivate the merchant's Amazon sales account, as well as any related accounts.

However, Amazon is not prohibited from selling such products all year round. The announcement shows that Amazon Logistics only accepts fusible goods from October 16 to April 14 of the following year. Fusible inventory stored or shipped to Amazon's operation center between April 15 and October 15 of each year will be marked as "unsaleable" and abandoned, and will be subject to the corresponding removal fee.

In addition, during the summer, goods stored in Amazon's fulfillment centers must meet quality standards ( 75 to 155°F, i.e. 23.9℃~68.3℃) to protect the integrity of the goods during storage and transportation.

In this regard, some sellers said that Amazon itself also sells products such as chocolates and candles, but will not apply this policy to itself. Other sellers believe that Amazon needs to maintain a balance between maintaining consumer experience and business expectations, making the transportation and handling of these products flexible, and allowing sellers to set up next-day transportation only for easily meltable products.

Some sellers also said that this policy is not rigorous, because low-temperature plastics will melt in very hot weather, and even eggs can be boiled outdoors. Now that summer and the melting period are coming to an end, the product can be sold again soon, so what's the point of deciding to remove it now? It should be removed around May, which is more logical.

In short, judging from the comments of sellers under this announcement, there are few voices of support, and more people are skeptical or think it is unnecessary.
