A total of 5,000 e-commerce consumers from five countries participated in the survey, including the United States, the United Kingdom , Canada, Mexico and Australia.
Data shows that the number of transactions, transaction frequency and sales in the global cross-border e-commerce market are expected to continue to grow in 2022.
Although many industry insiders believe that as epidemic control policies in many countries around the world are relaxed, more consumers will return to offline shopping, and e-commerce sales will decrease in 2022. However, surveys show that most consumers still have the habit of online shopping.
According to ClearSale ’s survey data, 39% of consumers said they shop online once a month on average, and 45% said they shop online more frequently, 1-2 times a week on average.
In the global e-commerce market in 2022, products in three major categories will be hot-selling.
Research shows that the categories with the fastest sales growth in the global e-commerce market in 2022 are clothing, fashion and accessories, followed by electronic technology products and then home products.
New consumers are the primary driver of growth in these categories, as 59% of consumers said they made their first apparel, fashion and accessories purchase in recent months, 43% made their first tech purchase, and 40% made their first home purchase.
1. Clothing, Fashion and Accessories
The reason why the clothing, fashion and accessories category is so popular is that new products are launched every week, which has a certain appeal to consumers.
2. Electronic technology products
The prices of electronic technology products are relatively high, and e-commerce platforms have price advantages compared to offline platforms, so they have promoted the sales of related products.
3. Home Products
Driven by the current fashion trends, more and more consumers choose to buy home products online, because the online home product market has more inventory and a wider variety of products than physical stores, which can meet the diverse needs of consumers.
As competition in the global cross-border e-commerce market intensifies, more than 90% of consumers choose to shop online on international trade websites, giving them access to goods from all over the world.
From the perspective of online shopping groups, millennials and Generation Z have become the mainstream, accounting for 50%, while Generation X and baby boomers only account for 35%.
In the post-epidemic era, although the global situation is turbulent, inflation is severe, and market competition is intensifying, the global e-commerce market as a whole is on an upward trend.
According to eMarketer 's " 2022 Global E-commerce Market Forecast Report" , global e-commerce sales in 2022 are expected to exceed US$5 trillion for the first time, accounting for 1/5 of the overall retail sales. This figure is expected to exceed US$7 trillion in 2025, and the e-commerce market will continue to maintain its growth trend .
