Caught off guard! Many product listings on Amazon and eBay were removed

Recently, listings for many products on online platforms such as Amazon, eBay and Facebook Marketplace have been removed, mainly because they do not meet UK product safety standards.

Consumer charity Electrical Safety First found a number of products on these platforms that did not comply with safety regulations through investigations, including travel plug adapters, insect repellents, baby bottle warmers, hair dryers, electric scooters and car battery chargers.

Many of these products pose risks of electric shock and fire, posing a serious threat to consumers' lives and property.

But in the UK , consumers have little recourse if products from online retailers are risky . If online marketplaces do not abide by the same laws as offline markets , this can expose shoppers to products that frequently fail to meet safety standards .

Electrical Safety First is urging Buckingham MP Greg Smith to take immediate action to close the legal loophole by passing legislation to rein in online retailers .

Recently, Electrical Safety First discovered several highly dangerous products on eBay that were designed to save consumers money on energy bills , but upon testing, were found to lack safety components, causing some of the devices to explode under specialized testing conditions .

To this end, Electrical Safety First immediately contacted eBay, and the illegal products have been deleted.

An eBay spokesperson said : "We welcome Electrical Safety First's monitoring of products on the platform at any time . We take product safety very seriously and have removed these non-compliant products . We will maintain close contact with the Office of Product Safety Standards and the Trading Standards Bureau in the future to ensure the safety of products on the platform . "

Regarding the platform's own supervision, an eBay spokesperson also said: "Our supervision platform is able to quickly delete listings of unsafe products . As of today, more than 32,000 non-compliant listings have been deleted . We are also equipped with automatic blocking filters. Once non-compliant products appear on the website , the platform will quickly delete them and take enforcement action against the seller, which may be in the form of warnings, suspensions or prohibitions on sales . "

Foreign markets have always had very strict supervision on product safety, so the editor here reminds all sellers to always pay attention to the compliance requirements of the products, check for compliance risks, and never take chances with dangerous products for the sake of profit. Otherwise, once the listing is removed from the shelves, the loss will outweigh the gain.
