Amazon to open delivery facility in Augusta County

According to foreign media reports, Amazon will open a 1 million square foot non-sorting distribution center in Augusta County, USA , which will create 500 jobs.

“This one-million-square - foot fulfillment center in Augusta County will provide greater power to Amazon’s supply chain and create 500 valuable jobs in the Shenandoah Valley , ” Secretary of Commerce and Trade Karen Merrick said in a statement .

Amazon has more than 30 fulfillment and sortation centers and delivery stations in Virginia , the first of which opened in 2006, and Virginia’s position as a premier logistics destination will be further solidified with continued investment from industry leaders like Amazon , which is currently driving economic development throughout the Commonwealth.

“We’re proud to expand our presence in Virginia with this Fishersville fulfillment center , ” said Melissa Nick, vice president of North America customer fulfillment at Amazon .

“This facility joins two recently opened delivery stations in Waynesboro and Louisa and is critical to our ability to serve our customers and offer great selection and fast Prime shipping speeds in the region ,” he said .

The Virginia Economic Development Partnership worked with Augusta County and Shenandoah Valley Partners to secure the Virginia project. Amazon is eligible to receive benefits from the state’s Major Commercial Facility Job Tax Credit for the new full-time jobs created at the distribution facility .

Amazon’s other projects originally scheduled to launch in 2022 include an inbound cross-dock fulfillment center in Chesapeake and a robotics fulfillment center in Suffolk, both of which opened in the spring .
