Recently, Pinterest announced the launch of the "Try on" feature, which uses augmented reality technology to allow users to bring the shopping experience from the physical plane to the virtual plane, helping them to directly see the placement effect when choosing home furnishings, and turning all home decoration ideas into reality.
The Try on feature is built on Pinterest's Lens camera search technology, which can recognize objects in the real world, transform them based on them, and then recommend products online. Users can adjust products in the camera view to see how they will look in the space and whether they can blend in with the original home decor.
In this way, Pinterest provides an easier experience for more than 85 million users, allowing them to turn inspiration into action when shopping. The application and popularization of this technology has also increased people's interest in the virtual world.
Pinterest said in a statement that as one of the world's largest home decoration platforms, home decoration is the most consulted category on the platform, with 3.37 billion global search clicks in 2021. 9 out of 10 users use the platform to search and research home decoration to get shopping inspiration. Pinterest's new move to combine augmented reality features with shopping can give users a more immersive online experience and help them make purchasing decisions in the comfort of their homes.
Therefore, the launch of try on allows users to more intuitively see the effect of home decoration placement when purchasing products, improve shopping accuracy and sales, and reduce the chance of returns.
The platform currently has partnerships with Crate & Barrel, CB2, Walmart, West Elm and Wayfair We have cooperated with other stores , and users can buy the tested products directly in the cooperating stores, making shopping more convenient.
The number of users engaging with Pinterest’s retail stores has continued to grow over the past year . Users are using visual search to make purchases on the platform, and searches for the Lens camera increased 126% compared to 2020.
"Since the pandemic, we've seen more digital shoppers than ever before as millions of people now view personalized recommendations and gather information as part of their decision-making before purchasing, through virtual and mobile options, every day on Pinterest. This is one of the reasons why we continue to advance technologies like AR try on. We want to make Pinterest a complete shopping destination that allows people to shop anywhere in the app," said Pinterest's senior vice president of engineering.
The new feature is currently only available to Pinterest users in the United States , but is expected to be available to users in other parts of the world soon. Enhanced display capabilities |
