Production plummeted by 30%! Will French wine prices increase?

France is famous for its romance. It has many cultural landmarks, such as the Eiffel Tower, the Arc de Triomphe, the fashion capital of Paris, and wine. French style is also a romantic impression that this country conveys to people around the world. When it comes to romance, what do you think of? Roses, red wine, or candlelight dinner.

Red wine is a common alcoholic beverage in European and American countries. It is understood that the United States is the country with the largest red wine consumption in the world, while France is a major grape-growing country in the world and the world's largest wine exporter. However, due to the frequent extreme weather this year, French grape production has been severely hit. This year , the French Ministry of Agriculture publicly stated that this year France's vineyards have been damaged by spring frost and summer rainstorms. France's wine production is expected to be nearly 29 % lower than in previous years.

Extreme weather is indeed unpredictable for a growing industry that is highly dependent on the climate. The unseasonal spring frost is indeed a big blow to grape production. Coupled with the continued heavy rains in France in summer, grape mold has grown in large numbers. This year, France's total grape production is expected to be nearly half less than in previous years.

The French Agriculture Ministry said in a statement that spring frosts had reduced most of the grape production, even below the yields of 1991 and 2017, which would be the lowest level in history.

The Ministry of Agriculture's statistics agency Agreste has predicted that this year's grape harvest will also be later than usual . The French government said at the time that the loss of one-third of France's wine production would result in a loss of nearly 2 billion euros in sales.

However , it is understood that although French grape cultivation has been severely hit this year, the output will be reduced by one third, and the wine production will also be reduced accordingly, but due to the reserve of wine in previous years , it is expected that the poor harvest in 2021 will not affect the supply of the wine market. Therefore, for wine lovers, the reduction in wine production will hardly cause a large-scale price increase of wine!
