Amazon expands its “same-day delivery” service, with delivery in as fast as 5 hours!

Amazon announced on Sept. 23 that it was expanding its "faster" same-day delivery service to the Miami, Minneapolis and Atlanta metro areas, as well as additional communities in Chicago.

Amazon claims that same-day delivery service can deliver the goods within 5 hours from the time the order is placed . If you choose same-day delivery service, Prime members need to pay $2.99 , and if the order exceeds $35 , there is no additional fee. Non- Prime members need to pay a fixed fee of $12.99.

In order to complete same-day delivery of orders , Amazon built and used a small distribution center with an area of 100,000 square feet ( about 9,200 square meters) , which is one-tenth the size of a traditional distribution center .

In March 2020, Amazon announced the launch of its "faster" same-day delivery program: "We are able to achieve this by storing the items that need to be delivered in brand new facilities we built closer to our customers. They are the first of their kind and serve as small distribution centers optimized for faster delivery. " Amazon first launched this service in Philadelphia, Phoenix, Orlando and Dallas .

In a September 23 announcement, Amazon said : “Since we launched this service more than a year ago, Prime members in more than a dozen cities can choose to order up to 3 million items in more than a dozen categories , including baby, beauty and health, kitchen and dining, electronics, pet supplies, and more. This delivery method is also environmentally sustainable because the products are closer to the customers - which greatly reduces the logistics delivery process.

In order to achieve faster same-day delivery service, Amazon is continuously expanding its fleet size and the number of airports. As of August this year , Amazon's fleet has put into use 73 Boeing 767 and Boeing 737 aircraft.

Amazon increased its flights by 17% between February and August, according to a September report from DePaul University , which said Amazon's logistics operations, large workforce and expansion potential set it up for growth in the coming years.
