Electric scooters and balance bikes are popular among office workers because of their small size and flexibility, and they are often seen on the road. However, due to safety concerns, these small electric vehicles have been banned from the road in the UK recently.
The Department for Transport has made it illegal to use private electric transporters on public roads, footpaths or cycle paths in a recent update to traffic regulations. " Pedestrians should not be allowed to use electric transporters anywhere except their own back gardens , " the Department said .
The range of "electric transport vehicles" given by the UK Department of Transport includes a variety of electric models including electric scooters, electric balance vehicles, hoverboards, go-peds (internal combustion engine powered bicycles), electric unicycles and u-wheel skateboards.
The move by the UK Department of Transport is a big blow to retailers of electric transporters. It is already illegal to use electric transporters on public roads, so can their products still be sold? The good news is: you can! The UK Department of Transport said: "It is not illegal to sell electric scooters , but suppliers should take responsibility for providing customers with information about the legal restrictions on their use . "
eBay UK issued a related announcement shortly after the traffic regulations were updated. The announcement stated that according to the latest guidance from the UK Department of Transport, all electric scooter sellers must add a disclaimer to their product listings regarding the illegal use of privately owned electric scooters on roads and sidewalks. The specific wording of the disclaimer is as follows:
"Warning: It is illegal to ride an e-scooter on a public road, footpath or cycle path except in very specific circumstances. They are only for use on private land with the owner's permission."
The disclaimer should be clearly visible at the top of the product details and needs to be added to all relevant listings. All electric scooters need to add this statement, whether on the desktop or mobile. If the disclaimer is not added, the product will be removed from eBay!
Electric scooter sellers may be affected by this policy in the near future, but they still have to continue their business. Sellers selling electric scooters on eBay must conduct self-inspections in a timely manner and add disclaimers to product listings to avoid subsequent impacts due to product removal. eBay Platform Platform Information Policy Updates |
