Amazon and Flipakart suspected of anti-competitive behavior, Indian regulators will launch investigation on September 15

According to foreign media reports, India's Supreme Court last month rejected Amazon and Flipkart's request to quash the Competition Commission of India's (CCI) investigation into their alleged anti-competitive practices.

It is understood that the Confederation of Indian Traders (CAIT) will launch a nationwide campaign against the "inappropriate behavior" of foreign e-commerce companies such as Amazon and Flipkart on September 15. CAIT said in a statement: "We are very annoyed by the continued illegal behavior of foreign e-commerce companies in India. At present, traders across the country will work together to fight against major global e-commerce giants through an active national campaign."

"We are deeply disappointed to note that despite so many established policies, laws and regulations and a sound management system, no concrete action has been taken by some large e-commerce companies that have violated relevant rules and laws," CAIT national president BC Bhartia and secretary general Praveen Khandelwal said in a joint statement. The two urged the implementation of the draft e-commerce rules as soon as possible, saying "don't waste any more time."

The agency wrote to Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal on Monday, demanding immediate implementation of the draft e-commerce rules and "slamming Niti Aayog and a few others who have criticized the draft e-commerce rules". According to information from Vyapar Mahasangh in Delhi, the CCI had ordered an investigation into the incident in January 2020. Amazon and Flipkart challenged the order in the Karnataka High Court, but it was dismissed in June. According to a report by PTI, Amazon and Flipkart claimed to have complied with the law and said they would fully cooperate with the CCI investigation.

In August, hours after the Supreme Court asked Amazon and Flipkart to voluntarily participate in the CCI probe, Narayana Murthy's Catamaran Ventures, the parent of Amazon and its seller company Cloudtail, announced that the two would exit their joint venture after May 2022. Currently, the two companies are the largest e-commerce companies in the country and have been vying for the top spot in the e-commerce market.

Even e-commerce giants like Amazon and Flipkart have to abide by the established trade policies of the Indian government. The editor would like to remind everyone that in trade activities, you must abide by national laws and regulations, respect local customs and avoid disputes and unnecessary losses.
