The Russian AliExpress platform recently updated the shopping trends of consumers in the first half of 2021. Through the AliIndex function launched earlier, the platform tracked the shopping of Russian consumers on the AliExpress platform, and analyzed the most frequent online shopping regions in Russia in the first half of the year and the most popular products among Russian consumers.
According to data from AliIndex, consumers in Moscow and St. Petersburg are the most active in shopping , and the top five regions include Novosibirsk, Volgograd and Yekaterinburg, followed by Kazan, Krasnodar, Nizhny Novgorod, Rostov-on-Don, Kaliningrad, Samara, Ufa and Chelyabinsk .
AliIndex analyzed the average cost of goods and shopping cart data to find out the most popular products among consumers . Among them, smartphones are still the product that Russian consumers are most willing to buy, and the share of this category in shopping carts has reached 35% of the total, an increase of 2% compared with the previous period.
Purchases of household gadgets and beauty tools account for half of the AliIndex . In this category, Russian consumers spend the most money on vacuum cleaners . The share of vacuum cleaners in total spending has increased compared to the previous period , reaching 23%.
In addition, due to the epidemic, Russians need to spend more time at home. Consumers are also actively buying kitchen and household products , such as blenders, irons, hair dryers and electric shavers .
The proportion of clothing categories in AliIndex has slightly decreased compared with the previous period, accounting for 17% of the total expenditure. Importantly, this year's Russian consumers prefer to buy high-waisted jeans, pure cotton oversized T-shirts, classic double-breasted raincoats and windbreakers. In addition, silk dresses, white eco-leather women's sneakers and men's summer sneakers are still popular.
It is reported that AliIndex will be updated twice a year. Russian sellers can pay more attention to these sales data, understand the shopping preferences of local consumers, select products based on their own actual situation, and provide more cost-effective products for local consumers.
