Recently, according to local news in Belgium, a large number of parcels will face delays, most of which come from China. The main reason for the delay is the new tax reform regulations that came into effect on July 1, which stipulate that products below 22 euros will also be subject to value-added tax.
By canceling exemptions through new regulations, Europe hopes to increase the competitive advantage of local sellers. For this reason, local delivery company Bpost said its workload has increased tenfold compared to June.
Belgian Post Bpost also responded: "In the past, only about 2% of parcels needed to calculate VAT correctly, but now it has reached 100%. Parcels from China are the main problem, because many small sellers are not very clear about the new VAT rules."
To resolve this issue, they also need to inquire about the package information by email, and it may take some time to receive a reply. Any seller who calls Bpost will receive an automatic message, and the customer service said that due to the "significant delays" of the new customs procedures, the situation cannot be changed at present, and it may take three weeks or more to process.
A postal spokesperson also expressed the hope that more and more online shops would register for the one-stop IOSS to facilitate and simplify VAT declaration and payment for long-distance sales of imported goods (valued at no more than 150 euros).
With the arrival of the peak season in the second half of the year and the booming development of European e-commerce, Bpost's business volume has also increased significantly. However, Bpost did not realize the peak in demand last year and was unprepared. It had to find temporary employees and borrow vans to deliver parcels.
In order to cope with the peak demand in the second half of the year, Bpost found a novel way to solve the parcel delivery problem from within the company, using their own executives to deliver the parcels. They believe that this change of function will be a form of team building in service to the public, and not only that, but also a tribute to the excellent work of postmen throughout the year.
In order to catch up with the peak transportation season in the second half of the year, delivery delays are inevitable due to various reasons. Sellers should prepare goods as early as possible, pay close attention to logistics dynamics, and be prepared for delays. Belgium Delays logistics |
