Amazon hates selling counterfeit products. In June last year, Amazon set up a global anti-counterfeiting team (CCU). Recently, the team took action against suppliers who produced counterfeit GoPro products and first made the lawsuit public on August 9.
Reports show that in April this year, Amazon and GoPro sued seven Chinese sellers and two companies , accusing them of blatantly using GoPro's trademarks to sell counterfeit "Handler" floating handles and "3-Way" (tripod/handle/arm) three-in-one camera mounts.
The investigation pointed out that there is almost no difference in appearance between the counterfeit products and the genuine GoPro, but a careful comparison reveals that the fake camera mount is lighter, has a rougher surface, and has smaller buttons. Amazon said that after discovering the counterfeit products, they immediately blocked the sellers' accounts and sent samples of these knockoff products to GoPro. In addition, the Chinese police also launched a criminal investigation against these counterfeit product sellers.
In this lawsuit, GoPro did not specify how many people bought these counterfeit GoPro accessories, but said that consumers must have been deceived. These counterfeiters not only infringed GoPro's intellectual property rights, but also misled consumers and damaged Amazon's reputation of selling only authentic products.
It is reported that GoPro is an American sports camera manufacturer. The cameras produced by the company have always been regarded as special cameras for extreme sports because of their compactness and high quality. In addition, the company's accessories have gained many fans around the world due to their super playability, and sales continue to rise. In the second quarter of this year, GoPro's revenue increased by 86% year-on-year to US$1 billion.
It is worth noting that this lawsuit is the first lawsuit filed by Amazon's counterfeit crime department against electronic products . Amazon has also launched many lawsuits in other categories, including "clothing manufacturer HanesBrands, Italian luxury brands Valentino and Ferragamo, cosmetics brand KF Beauty, home travel accessories brand JL Childress, cooler manufacturer YETI, card game company Dutch Blitz, and global board game publisher Asmodee.
In fact, Amazon has been working hard to crack down on counterfeit products . In May of this year, Amazon released a brand protection report, which stated that the company destroyed more than 2 million counterfeit products and blocked 10 billion suspected counterfeit products. Among all the products sold by Amazon, less than 0.01% of the products received counterfeit complaints from consumers.
In the future, Amazon will continue to crack down on counterfeit products. We hope that merchants will raise their awareness of intellectual property rights, focus on their own research and development, and bring Chinese-made products, rather than Chinese knockoffs, to the world.
