Walmart, Target and other large companies step up competition for warehouses

According to a foreign media report, this year, the demand for warehouse space to meet the needs of US retailers is soaring, including large companies such as Walmart and Target. In recent years, in order to catch up with Amazon, large companies such as Walmart have been investing in warehouses . But unfortunately, they still have not surpassed their "big brother".

The rise in warehouse demand reflects the upward development trend of the e-commerce industry, and also reflects the demand of e-commerce companies for cargo storage space. In addition, the long-term stacking of goods at ports and the emergence of low-priced vacant warehouses have become boosters for the competition for warehouses.

Although the epidemic is not over yet, the global flow of goods is still very large. Under the epidemic prevention and control measures, the transportation and storage of these goods have to slow down, and the entire chain from sales to delivery has been extended, which eventually leads to the accumulation of goods at the port. The goods in the warehouse have not yet been shipped out, and a new batch of goods has to be placed . It is conceivable how much pressure the warehouse is under . At this time, Amazon continues to increase its acquisition of warehouses in the center, which has exacerbated the urgency of this situation.

It is worth noting that it is not only the platform sellers who are involved in the competition for warehouses, but also third-party logistics providers such as FedEx and UPS. According to the forecast of Jones Lang LaSalle (a foreign real estate service provider), the demand for industrial real estate in Columbus alone will surge by about 61% this year.

However, the impact of the growth in warehouse demand is not one-sided, and it also has an indirect impact on sellers on major e-commerce platforms. Imagine if there is insufficient storage space in overseas warehouses and the goods cannot be delivered in time, will it have a negative impact on the seller's reputation? If the goods cannot be stored in time, who will be responsible for the additional detention fees borne by the seller? These are all problems.

In response to the rapid growth in warehouse demand, some people in the United States said that more rental space would be provided if necessary. Therefore, whether it is the platform, the seller or the logistics party, there is no need to worry too much. The key is to take precautions against possible problems in advance.
