As Amazon Prime Day is getting closer, sellers are making various preparations for the coming of Prime Day. But who would have thought that Amazon, which seems to be thriving on the surface, has actually brushed shoulders with death behind the scenes.
A Texas man pleaded guilty on Wednesday to conspiracy to blow up an Amazon data center in Virginia , federal authorities announced, according to the Dallas Morning News.
According to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Texas , he will face five to 20 years in prison when he is sentenced in a U.S. federal court in October .
Planning a conspiracy
It is reported that the man is named Seth Aaron Pendley, 28, from Wichita Falls, Texas , and was arrested in April.
Pendley , 28, posted on an online forum for militia supporters that he wanted to "do a little experiment," and when another user asked Pendley what the outcome he wanted was, Pendley responded with " death !"
Federal authorities said Pendley disclosed the plan to blow up an Amazon-owned data center to a confidential official informant on the encrypted messaging app Signal in January, an attack he hoped would "take out about 70 percent of the internet."
In late February, Pendley sent the informant a handwritten list of several data centers, many of which were located in Virginia. Eventually Pendley narrowed the search to one data center and hand-drew a map of the center, showing routes in and out of the center.
Eventually arrested
Pendry then met with the informant on March 31 and was introduced to a person (actually an undercover FBI agent) who could provide explosives for the attack. After Pendry placed fake explosives given by the FBI agent in his car, he was arrested.
When police searched Pendley 's home, they found an AR-style rifle with the barrel sawed off , a pistol painted to look like a toy gun , masks , wigs, and notes and cards related to the planned attack on the data center .
It is reported that Pendley also claimed to have participated in the storming of the Capitol on January 6. According to the investigation, although Pendley did not enter the Capitol in the end, he still participated in the conflict that day and came with a cut-off rifle and left the gun in his car.
