Amazon has issued a new rule: products priced higher than MRP will be removed!

Recently, Amazon has introduced various control measures. Amazon India said that during the COVID-19 pandemic, it will cancel product listings of sellers on its platform who set prices higher than the maximum retail price (MRP) and suspend their accounts.

“There is no room for price gouging on Amazon and as per our policies, we continue to actively monitor our marketplace and take necessary action, including delisting and suspending accounts, against sellers who sell products above the MRP, which is a violation of Indian laws , ” Amazon India, the Indian e-commerce giant, said in a statement.

Amazon warned third-party sellers on its marketplace in February not to charge excessive prices for masks amid the global COVID-19 pandemic , as the company found that the cost of masks did not fit its pricing mechanism.

Previously in March 2020, Amazon also removed hundreds of thousands of "high-priced items" and suspended the accounts of thousands of sellers suspected of price gouging. The company reportedly removed as many as 530,000 products from its marketplace and suspended 2,500 seller accounts.

In response, Amazon said that they violated Amazon's price fraud policy. Amazon is "actively monitoring" unfair prices on the market and "aggressively" enforcing fair pricing policies to protect customers.

On April 26, the Confederation of All Indian Traders (CAIT) accused e-commerce giants Amazon and Flipkart of delivering non-essential items in defiance of the COVID-19 restrictions imposed by different states.

In its letter to Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, CAIT alleged that Amazon and Flipkart were taking advantage of the pandemic to gain undue financial gain by delivering non-essential goods.

"To further their illegal activities, Amazon and Flipkart have begun taking undue advantage of the pandemic to derive illicit financial benefits through the supply of non-essential goods, which have been strictly prohibited by administrations in many countries due to the ongoing lockdown to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, " the trade body said in its letter .
