Recently, PayPay announced some relevant data. Even under the influence of the COVID-19 pandemic , the number of registered PayPay users, the number of associated stores and the number of payments have achieved steady growth.
From April 2020 to March 2021, Japan used PayPay for more than 2 billion payments in one year , 2.5 times the 800 million payments in the previous year. In particular, in the fourth quarter of 2020, the total number of payments in three months exceeded 600 million, 1.6 times that of the same period last year.
Starting from November 2020, PayPay began to offer "PayPay Coupons", allowing member stores to arbitrarily set the granting of PayPay bonuses. Users only need to obtain coupons on the "PayPay" app in advance , and when they use "PayPay" to pay in the target store, they will automatically receive PayPay red envelope benefits.
For franchise stores, the "PayPay coupons" have been implemented to target more than 38 million PayPay users nationwide . As a result, the number of PayPay member stores has continued to increase, exceeding 3.16 million as of April this year .
According to PayPay's data, after the implementation of the " points business " on September 1, 2020 , as of April this year , the number of registered users of PayPay exceeded 3 million.
And through the implementation of large-scale events such as the "Super PayPay Festival", the number of registered PayPay users has now exceeded 38 million .
