E-commerce sales increased by more than 354%, Weird Fish embraces e-commerce transformation

The retailer ’s e-commerce sales grew 84% last year, driven by a 105% increase in new customers. During the brief period last summer when non-essential stores were allowed to open between the first and second lockdowns, Weird Fish’s same-store sales grew 11% overall.

Weird Fish said the sales surge shows no signs of abating in 2021. Its e-commerce sales have grown 354% this year, thanks to new full-price promotions. Despite store closures, overall sales were up 108% in the first quarter.

As part of its digital investment, Weird Fish introduced a new customer management platform, enhanced the website user experience, and upgraded its stores to allow customers to place orders on-site. It also launched a new YouTube channel and ran a dedicated video branding campaign on Weird Fish’s social networks.

Ben Mercier, account director at Weird Fish, said: “We recognised the need to remain agile and continually adapt to changing market conditions throughout the lockdown , so we decided to invest significantly in our e-commerce channels and marketing throughout 2020 .

Ben Mercier added that 2021 will continue to drive the three main pillars of its growth: integrating digital technology into all areas of the business, making 80% of products sustainable by 2022, and introducing more new products in all categories.

It is reported that the success of its sustainable bamboo fiber product line launched last year has exceeded people's expectations and opened up new avenues for further development in the sports and leisure industry.

John Stockton, managing director of Weird Fish, said: “ Our e-commerce journey has been accelerated during lockdown . The relaxed, easygoing lifestyle we offer has really won over our existing loyal fans and attracted many new customers.

It is reported that a few months ago , the UK government temporarily relaxed restrictions in some areas. Holiday accommodation providers including Campsites.co.uk saw a 300% increase in bookings and enquiries, which means that more people will flock to our store accommodation hotspots.

In line with government advice, non-essential retailers in England will be able to reopen from April 12. WeirdFish has confirmed it will reopen all 18 stores on that date, with safety, hygiene and social distancing measures in place.
