Online spending surges, UK e-commerce job vacancies hit record high

The UK’s online consumption boom has triggered a significant increase in the number of e-commerce job seekers, according to new data from recruitment platform Indeed Flex.

 

According to the results of the Indeed Flex survey , from February to March 1 this year, the number of job seekers related to e-commerce increased significantly , with job searches increasing by more than 100% , and searches for warehouse positions increasing by 82%.

 

In addition, according to research by Morgan McKinley and Vacancysoft, despite the double blow of the epidemic and Brexit, the number of bank recruitments has reached the highest level in three years. As early as February , major banks in the UK announced 1,163 bank vacancies, an increase of 43.9% over the same period last year.

 

The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the consumption habits of the British people . Online consumption in the UK has reached an unprecedented level. People's interest in online shopping has increased significantly , causing online shopping expenditure to account for 36.3% of total retail expenditure , setting a new record. In February 2020, this proportion was only 19.1% .

 

Online shopping has also boosted the development of online payment business, and banks have invested a lot of money in digital resources . The number of IT developers and engineers increased by 5.6% year-on-year, and the number of infrastructure specialists increased by 2.6% year-on-year .

 

As the COVID-19 lockdown measures are eased, job seekers are increasingly interested in other industries . Shops, restaurants and bars are set to reopen on April 12, and job applications for bar and waiter positions have risen by 98% and 60% respectively in the past two weeks .

 

Thousands of new jobs are appearing in the UK every week . The number of job openings in the UK has risen to its highest level since April 2020, and hiring in the hardest-hit industries has eased.

 

Food jobs in the UK jumped 21% in the year to mid-March , while retail jobs grew 23% over the same period.

 

Indeed Flex CEO and co-founder said: " COVID-19 put the brakes on the UK job market in 2019, leaving many people unsure where to go next. But with the rapid advancement of the vaccination program and the slow recovery of the economy, the job market has taken a new turn , with thousands of new positions appearing every week . "
