As a pioneer in Indonesian e-commerce, Tokopedia once had more than 90 million users , until January 2020, when the number of users rapidly increased to 100 million, establishing a solid user base . According to LPEM FEB UI research, 70% of Tokopedia sellers achieved a 133% sales growth. According to Tokopedia’s internal data, the number of sellers has also increased from 7.2 million in January 2020 to more than 10 million now . The report also revealed the three provinces with the highest sales growth on the Tokopedia platform, namely NTB (144.6%), Sulawesi Tengah (73.4%) and Sulawesi Selatan (73.3%). LPEM FEB UI head Riatu Mariatul Qibthiyyah explained that 68.6% of the sellers who joined Tokopedia during the COVID-19 period were the sole breadwinners in their families. 76.4% of sellers said that ease of operation was the main reason for them to join Tokopedia , but most of these sellers are small and micro sellers. Online shopping is increasingly becoming an option for people to meet their life needs, while also reducing the risk of virus transmission. Other data shows that during the COVID-19 period, consumers' average monthly spending on Tokopedia increased by 71% compared to before. Astri Wahyuni, head of public policy and government relations at Tokopedia , said COVID -19 has accelerated the digital transformation of various sectors. Digitalization and technology are no longer just enablers, but have rapidly evolved into a necessity to meet the challenges of the pandemic. He also said that given that SMEs account for more than 60% of Indonesia's GDP, Tokopedia hopes that relevant departments and social groups can cooperate with each other to help SMEs develop and continue to contribute to economic recovery. In the future, Tokopedia will continue to promote the five pillars of business development, namely strengthening infrastructure, focusing on consumer needs, increasing the utilization of big data, adopting artificial intelligence (AI) technology and optimizing the financial framework. Indonesia has more than 17,000 islands, and given its unique and complex geographical environment, this will continue to be a focus of Tokopedia's attention . In addition, the development of Southeast Asia's digital economy has also attracted many global technology giants to invest. With the booming development of financial technology, Tokopedia's business development may be even more prosperous. Cross-border e-commerce market Southeast Asia Tokopedia |
