The ranking summarizes the cross-border sustainable development data of the best-performing shopping platforms. The top ten are: eBay (US), Redbubble (Australia), Etsy (US), Rakuten (Japan), Amazon (US), Amazon Handmade (US), Threadless (US), Bol.com (Netherlands), StockX (US), and Leboncoin (France).
The ranking is based on 10 weighted KPIs with a full score of 100, including cross-border sustainable development goals, cross-border sustainable business models, cross-border sustainable shopping experiences, sustainable development certification and labels, sustainable product classifications, sustainable last mile delivery and transport carriers, brand partners, Far East manufacturing and transportation, CO2 carbon footprint measurement, and sustainable development managers.
McKinesy & Company conducted a survey of more than 2,000 British and German consumers. The survey showed that during the epidemic, the public's participation in "sustainable development" has become increasingly profound, and they have begun to pay attention to the impact of environmental protection during the shopping process. Products with environmental labels are often more popular with consumers.
There is an obvious trend: sales of French second-hand platforms continued to grow in 2020, and 45% of consumers were driven by the desire to protect the environment; in the ranking of factors affecting German consumers' online shopping, "sustainability" ranked third.
Consumers' tendency to pay attention to environmental protection has, to a certain extent, forced some e-commerce platforms to start paying attention to environmental benefits. A report from the European Cross-Border Business Organization shows that among the top 100 companies in the world , nearly half have executives specializing in sustainable development and have dedicated teams to promote sustainable development and environmental impact.
In this competition for sustainable e-commerce platforms, eBay is undoubtedly the final winner. Since its launch in 1995, sustainability has always been one of the core elements of eBay, a global market. Although most of the listings on eBay are brand new products now, the second-hand market and second-hand goods are still an important part of eBay. It is estimated that about 16% of eBay's revenue is green and clean.
In addition, the real and sustainable C2C business model also allowed eBay to obtain a full score of 15 points in the sustainable business model indicator, and ranked first in the global cross-border sustainable market ranking with a total score of 68.9.
The top ten sustainable marketplaces in Europe , including the UK, are : Bol.com ( Netherlands ), Leboncoin ( France ), Spreadshirt ( Germany ), ASOS ( UK ), FNAC ( France ), Zalando ( Germany ) , Farfetch and Lyst ( UK ), La Redoute ( France ), Vinted ( Lithuania ) and United Wardrobe ( Netherlands ) .
