On August 9, reporters learned that Cainiao and AliExpress have upgraded the "Delivery Duty Paid" (DDP) service in Colombia, Chile and Mexico to provide merchants and consumers with more certain fulfillment services. AliExpress consumers pay taxes online in advance through the DDP service, and the priority service upgrade can save an average of 5-8 days for parcels, further speeding up cross-border express delivery in Latin America .
Specifically, when consumers shop at the three country sites listed above on AliExpress, they can see the tax amount at checkout and pay the tax online in seconds. The order can be "cleared" before it actually arrives at the destination country , which improves consumer satisfaction by improving fulfillment time and thus increases purchase conversion rate.
Previously, after a cross-border package with a certain amount of money arrived at the customs of three countries, consumers had to wait for notifications from the tax, customs, post office and other departments, and then pay taxes separately. The process was cumbersome and it was easy for consumers to be unwilling to pay tariffs, resulting in the goods being stuck at customs. After the prepayment tax service is launched, consumers can directly see the tax calculation rules on the front end, and the taxes will be directly included in the order amount.
Merchants only need to sign the service agreement with one click in the backend without any other actions to join the AliExpress tax payment service. Taxes will be automatically included in the order amount payable when buyers settle the purchase. Merchants do not need to manually include taxes in the selling price. After the taxes are collected, Cainiao will pay them to the relevant tax collection agencies.
The Latin American market is known as the "last blue ocean" of cross-border e-commerce . In the past two years, AliExpress has expanded rapidly in Latin America. According to third-party data, in June 2024, AliExpress's visits ranked first among Brazilian cross-border e-commerce platforms, and its downloads in Mexico have exceeded Amazon. Festival parties, home storage, kitchenware, pets, etc. are all hot-selling categories in Latin America.
Correspondingly, Cainiao has also been continuously increasing the construction of local express logistics networks in Latin America. Cainiao has joined hands with AliExpress to operate charter flights from China to Mexico and Brazil, and has overseas warehouses, distribution centers and more than a dozen high-quality local logistics partners in the region, creating an efficient international express delivery network.
