About ETA

ETA is the estimated time of arrival of a vessel, vehicle, aircraft, cargo, emergency services or personnel at a certain location.

An estimated arrival time is often paired with a similar forecast, the estimated time of departure, or ETD. Most of the time, if the departure time changes, the arrival time will change accordingly. But this is not always the case, especially with airlines. If a plane takes off late, favorable winds may allow it to still arrive on time. Most ETDs are based on the average time it takes to cover the travel distance at regular speeds; it is common for changes in weather and winds to cause a flight to land earlier or later than average.

Influencing factors

1. With the use of public road transport, traffic can cause huge delays in arrival times, especially during busy times such as rush hour, holidays, city events, and even bad weather can slow down public transport.

2. Since many transportation systems are now computerized, even a computer or power failure can disrupt a system of timely departures and arrivals.
