In June this year , e-commerce giant Amazon officially celebrated its 10th anniversary in India . Although the company entered the Indian market much later than local e-commerce platforms such as Flipkart, SnapDeal and IndiaMART, it still has a place in the field .
Abhinav Singh, vice president of Amazon India in charge of customers, supply chain and Amazon transportation services, believes that their success is due to their understanding of the needs of Indian consumers . In addition, India 's infrastructure construction is also one of the important driving forces for the rapid development of the e-commerce industry.
According to data provided by Amazon, it initially had only one logistics center in Bhiwandi, Maharashtra, in India, which had 220,000 cubic feet of storage space.
The e-commerce giant now has warehousing centers in 15 states in India with a storage capacity of 43 million cubic feet. In addition, the company has sorting centers in 19 states with a ground coverage of 2.3 million square feet.
Apart from this, Amazon has nearly 2,000 delivery stations and delivery service partners in more than 750 cities in India, and more than 600 trucking partners.
“We have very strong partnerships with Indian Railways and with service providers like India Post and other couriers. So, honestly, over the last 10 years, we have built a logistics network from scratch to serve millions of Indian consumers,” Singh said .
Abhinav Singh noted that earlier this year, the company's CEO Andy Jassy spoke with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss Amazon's partnerships with logistics partners in the country.
Amazon India's e-commerce business is understood to compete with Walmart's Flipkart, which generates revenue from platform fees, shipping services and advertising from sellers.
In fact, Amazon's business in India is not limited to e-commerce, but also covers Amazon Web Services, Amazon Payments, etc. The global brand has about 1 million employees in India and has invested $11 billion in verticals. CEO Andy Jassy pointed out that by fiscal 2030, the company will invest another $15 billion in India. Amazon India |
