Walmart released its annual toy list on Tuesday, nearly a month earlier than last year, and added a new category - toys under $25.

Most of the 55 toys on the list can be purchased or pre-ordered online.

As in previous years, Walmart's list includes brands such as Lego, Hot Wheels and Barbie, as well as popular products from Cocomelon, LOLShoping and Magic Mixies.

Walmart said the list includes "more marked-down toys" to give customers "even more savings" on top of its "everyday low prices."

The toy wars are expected to heat up this year, with Macy's adding a Toys R Us store to every mall by Oct. 15.

In past years, the Hot Toys list has been pretty accurate in predicting what kids will like, with many toys selling out weeks before Christmas.

"We place a lot of emphasis on value for money, so more than half of the toys on this list are priced under $50, and many are under $25," Jessica Mireles, senior merchandising director for toys at Walmart, said in an interview.

Neil Saunders, managing director of GlobalData, said he believes holiday shopping will start earlier as consumers look to spread their purchases over a longer period of time.

"Retailers will be choosing to sell early to ensure they have adequate market share in a weak economic environment, " Saunders said. "Consumers should look for discounts and early offers, especially on non-seasonal products such as toys and electronics."

Advertising giant InMobi said this year may be the first time that the "five-day online shopping spree" - the shopping period from Thanksgiving to Cyber ​​Monday - is no longer representative of holiday season sales.

However, there may be a downside to shopping early: retailers' return policies vary, and if you buy early, the return period may expire before Christmas.
