The global e-commerce logistics market will grow by 19.9% in 2021

According to the latest report "Global E-Commerce Logistics 2022" by Transport Intelligence (Ti), the e-commerce logistics market continued to grow rapidly in 2021 , with a growth rate of 19.9%, reaching 441.47 billion euros in 2021.

The report shows that from 2021 to 2026, the global e-commerce logistics market will grow at a compound annual growth rate of 11.8%, and the cross-border e-commerce market will grow at a compound annual growth rate of 10.65% after 2026 .

Ti's latest data shows that from a regional perspective, the Asia-Pacific region will remain the largest e-commerce logistics market in 2021, followed by North America and Europe. However, the report predicts that North America will become the largest e-commerce logistics market in 2026, and the compound annual growth rate of the United States, Canada and Mexico between 2021 and 2026 will be higher than the global average.

The report also shows that market growth in the Asia-Pacific region will be affected by the slowdown in the compound annual growth rate of the Chinese and Korean markets during 2021-2026, making it lower than the global average and the regional average of 6.7%. However, supported by a large number of e-shoppers, these two countries will still be among the largest e-commerce logistics markets in the world.

The UK's e-commerce market may see a similar situation to that of China and South Korea . According to the UK Office for National Statistics, online sales accounted for 26.6% of total retail sales in the UK as of December 2021. It is expected that the UK's e-commerce logistics market will also be affected by Brexit in the next five years , but it will still maintain its position as the world's third largest e-commerce logistics market after the United States and China.

New research from Ti shows that the developing cross-border e-commerce logistics market will grow at a compound annual growth rate of 10.65% from 2021 to 2026. And this growth will continue as cross-border electronic consumption develops .

Michael Clover, Head of Business Development at Ti, said: "E-commerce has been one of the key growth areas for logistics in 2021, and individual service providers have seen impressive revenue growth. Overall growth has slowed since 2020, with growth somewhat mitigated by the special conditions for e-commerce growth brought about by the pandemic, but still above pre-pandemic levels. The forecast to 2026 depicts a mature market, with online retail penetration levels remaining at 25-30% in the most mature markets and rising to this level in other markets."
