The number of arriving liners has dropped, and the entry gate of Yantian Port for export heavy containers has been adjusted!

The congestion situation at the West Coast ports of the United States has been worrying in 2021, and even with the introduction of a series of policies, there has been no significant improvement. It is reported that the collection of detention fees previously prepared by the West Coast ports of the United States has been postponed several times and has now been postponed to April.

Domestically, there have been further delays in ships arriving at Shenzhen Yantian Port in the past two weeks. According to relevant information from Yantian Port Terminal, the punctuality rate of its liner services has dropped significantly to less than 20%. In terms of delay time, the average delay for ships arriving at the port exceeded 170 hours, while the number of ships on the European and American routes has decreased by 40% .

In response, Yantian International Container Terminals Co., Ltd. issued an announcement on the 16th, saying that due to the continued sharp decline in the number of arriving liner services , a large number of export heavy containers at the port could not be loaded, and the density of the Yantian Port yard was close to saturation . In order to avoid further impact on the port's production and increase the surrounding traffic pressure, Yantian Port has made some adjustments to the export heavy container entry gate .

According to the announcement, starting from 0:00 on the 21st of this month , Yantian Port will only accept export heavy containers within ETB-4 days ( four days before the expected berthing date of the ship ). The reservation quota for export heavy containers remains unchanged at 12,000 per day .

For heavy containers that have been successfully booked to enter the port from January 19 to 20 , if they miss the scheduled entry time due to delays in queuing, Yantian Port Terminal will receive the containers as normal.

Yantian Port is the port with the largest container throughput in China and the terminal with the highest density of ocean-going container liners in the mainland. In May last year , due to the impact of the epidemic in the port area, there was a phenomenon of cargo accumulation. At that time, the South China ports were congested one after another, but the overall operating capacity was restored soon after.

Data shows that Yantian Port handles a quarter of the cargo volume in Sino-US trade, which shows the importance of the port. Judging from the adjustment made by Yantian Port to export heavy containers, the global supply chain problem is still ongoing and it will take some time for the overall recovery. Carriers should keep abreast of the relevant information of the shipping port in order to make corresponding adjustments.
