About 20,800 bicycles recalled due to risk of injury

Recently, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the recall of approximately 20,800 bicycles, with the recall number 22-051. The reason for the recall is that the adjustable handlebars on this batch of bicycles may become loose, posing a risk of falling and injury.


The recalled products involve some 2021 adult bicycles of the Giant brand. The recalled product models include Giant   Cypress   DX , Giant   Escape   3   Comfort , Liv   Flourish   FS   1 and Liv   Alight   3   Comfort , etc., and are available in colors such as black, dark silver, dark red, etc. The recalled bicycles have a serial number beginning with the letter "P" located on the underside of the frame's bottom bracket, directly under the crank.

The product is reportedly manufactured in the Philippines. Between October 2020 and October 2021, approximately 20,800 units were sold in Giant stores and online Giant authorized dealers across the United States, with prices ranging from $590 to $690. So far, Giant Bicycles has received 86 reports of loose handlebars on bicycles, including three reports of consumers falling off their bicycles while riding.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said consumers should immediately stop using the recalled bicycles and contact Giant Bicycle Co. Giant Bicycle retailers will inspect and repair these products free of charge.

According to data from the NPD Group, as of October 2021, the U.S. bicycle market grew 3% compared to the same period last year, with revenue reaching $8.4 billion. NPD analysts said that the bicycle market growth rate has slowed slightly, but it is expected to resume strong growth in 2022.
