Strong Q4! European and American retailers expect higher sales in 2021

Strong Q4! European and American retailers expect higher sales in 2021

The dual shortage of inventory and staff has affected the delivery of goods for many retailers, but sales in Europe and the United States are still on the rise.

It is understood that although the delivery standards of goods in the UK in 2021 were lower than usual, and there was a shortage of staff and inventory, its online sales grew rapidly on Christmas Eve, while in-store sales showed a downward trend . Coupled with strong consumer demand, many retailers have improved their performance for the whole year of 2021, especially home furnishings merchants, who said that overall sales in the fourth quarter of 2021 will exceed expectations .

In its eight-week trading update in the UK to December 25, 2021 , it reported that full-price sales , including internet revenues, were up 20% in the fourth quarter and 13% for the year .

It also said full-year full-price sales were expected to rise 12.8% from two years ago , with sales at these retailers expected to grow 7% year-on-year in the 2022-2023 fiscal year .

During the same period, online sales in the market increased by 45%, and increased by 49% for the whole year compared with 2019. Previously, some institutions expected that sales in the fourth quarter of 2021 would be lower than those in the third quarter, but later, with the "strong recovery" of apparel products , sales in the fourth quarter changed a lot.

On the other hand, despite the same shortage of supply and labor, the sales of US e-commerce platforms in the fourth quarter are also optimistic. According to ADI's previous forecast, US e-commerce sales are expected to exceed the $200 billion mark for the first time in the fourth quarter of 2021 , reaching $207 billion.

Although the sales in the US market on Black Friday and Cyber Monday in December 2021 did not bring too many surprises, judging from the sales performance of Amazon, Shopify and its local offline platforms, online platforms are constantly breaking the original sales records. Shopify's Black Friday sales this year exceeded last year's $2.4 billion.

The global supply chain problem has not been well resolved in the new year, and the labor shortage problem in foreign markets is still ongoing, but the development of e-commerce platforms has not stopped. Home furnishings, clothing and other products will usher in new growth and recovery this year.
