eBay acquires Sneaker Con authentication business

Recently, eBay and Sneaker Con Digital reached a final agreement, according to which eBay acquired the authentication business of Sneaker Con, a sports shoe authentication organization that mainly operates in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and Germany.

Founded in 2009, Sneaker Con has built a global community of sneaker enthusiasts through its industry-leading events where people come together to buy, sell and trade sought-after footwear. Sneaker Con launched its Authentication business in 2018 and offers industry-leading authentication services to further support the sneaker community.

The acquisition is an extension of the ongoing collaboration between eBay and Sneaker Con, which is critical to supporting eBay’s Authenticity Guarantee , which eBay launched in October 2020 and features Sneaker Con’s team of industry experts fully vetting and verifying select sneakers on the marketplace .

The Authenticity Guarantee has significantly changed the way people buy and sell sneakers on eBay, as evidenced by quarterly category growth , with more than 1.55 million pairs of sneakers authenticated on eBay worldwide in just over a year .

Since launching the Authenticity Guarantee, the eBay Certified product assortment has kept pace with what inventory collectors seek. eBay will continue to leverage its product offerings to adapt to resale market trends and ensure a seamless user experience, providing a trusted marketplace for the community.

By acquiring Sneaker Con’s authentication business, eBay will operate a diverse sneaker marketplace with more than 1.9 million pairs available for purchase every day , further empowering its community to buy and sell footwear with complete confidence.

Fakes of branded shoes are common, and this acquisition will further enhance eBay's competitiveness in the shoe market.
