Diwali is one of India's most important annual festivals and the country's largest shopping festival . The 2021 Festival Shopping Outlook Report mainly reveals the trend of changes in consumer shopping preferences during the festival period .

1. Increased confidence in online retailers . Online retailers offer discount deals and the advantages of short lead times/fast deliveries , which have gained consumer confidence.

2. Smaller cities in India are becoming key e-shopping growth centers . According to Shopify’s Festival Shopping Outlook report, 53.5% of millennial shoppers from non-metro cities show a strong preference for online shopping.

3. The convenience, cost-effectiveness and personalization provided by online merchants enhance the appeal of online shopping.

4. Consumers prefer small online businesses. Nearly 58% of respondents said they are more willing to support and shop from small online businesses during this year's holiday season. Small retailers have successfully captured consumers' attention and loyalty by offering a range of value-for-money products , as well as personal attention and a personalized experience.

5. Holiday gift giving focuses on practicality . Consumers now prefer gifts with high functionality and practical value . Among them, home decoration and furniture are at the top of this year's holiday shopping list, and more than 50% of respondents expressed a tendency to spend on gifts in this category.

6. Consumers spend a large amount of money on electronic products . Shopify's survey shows that nearly 42% of respondents have increased their preference for electronic products.

7. The online shopping boom will continue . According to a survey report by Shopify India , 76.9% of Indian consumers prefer online shopping during this festival. Although most epidemic blockades have been lifted this year and the number of cases is decreasing, many consumers have become accustomed to this way of online shopping.
