Attention all sellers on Amazon.com: free returns will be implemented this week!

In the first half of this year, Amazon US has released several announcements on return policies, such as authorizing the platform to automatically request returns and change return labels.

Recently, Amazon released another related announcement. Amazon reminded sellers that starting from October 28, it will provide free returns for goods shipped by US sellers . Sellers can provide free returns for the entire selection by registering at the account level or by uploading a selected SKU list. The seller's free return badge will be displayed on the product detail page and the online return center.

It is worth noting that the announcement shows that in the free return service, regardless of the reason for the return, the seller cannot deduct the return shipping fee from the return refund that meets the policy . If a prepaid return label is not provided and the buyer has returned the item, the seller needs to refund the return shipping fee to the buyer.

Amazon said that the free return policy would help improve buyers' shopping experience and thus increase sellers' sales. However, sellers were not convinced.

Some sellers hope that Amazon can provide detailed instructions, such as how long the free return period is (because the holiday period spans a long time, the longer the free return period, the more uncertainties there will be). In addition, some sellers said that the free return policy is not free, and someone has to pay for the returned goods. Since buyers do not have to pay, Amazon will not bear this cost, and these costs will eventually fall on the sellers.

Some sellers also suggested that Amazon should come up with a policy to reduce returns from buyers, rather than repeatedly implementing more unfriendly policies towards sellers. If buyers can think carefully before purchasing goods, not only can they receive their favorite goods earlier, but also reduce the cumbersome procedures for future returns, which is beneficial to both buyers and sellers. But this is not the case. Sellers say that Amazon is still using the business of third-party sellers for charity and maintaining the profitability of its platform.

Regarding this free return service, some people said that while sellers should pay attention to policies, they should also focus on making good products and eliminating uncertainties. Products that meet consumer expectations can solve many problems.
