Adidas announced a product reuse program called "Choose to Give Back" on October 7. It allows people to send second-hand products of any brand - clothing, accessories and sports equipment - back to Adidas for reuse or resale on the online market. The program will be supported by the services and expertise of ThredUp , a second-hand e-commerce platform .
According to a press release from Adidas , the company will accept second-hand products of any brand through its Creator's Club app, which will be reused or resold. The program began to be piloted in the Creator's Club app on October 7. According to the plan, by early 2022 , "Choose to Give Back" will be more widely promoted online and offline .
Adidas says that if customers want to send in old clothes, they can request a Clean Out Kit prepaid shipping label in the Creator's Club app and use it to mail their clothing and accessories from "any brand or category. " Members will receive rewards from Adidas for using the program, and items that can't be resold will be reused by ThredUp's partners.
During the program's trial period , customers can earn up to 200 Creators Club points or adidas vouchers based on the quantity and quality of returned merchandise . Once customers reach 1,000 Creators Club points, they can receive exclusive offers, birthday gifts and free training resources.
While more than one athletic brand has announced its own resale refurbishment programs this year, Adidas' resale program is unique in that it will accept apparel from any brand or category, rather than limiting itself to just its own products.
At the same time, as a second-hand resale platform, ThredUp has also received increasing attention as the second-hand market is hot this year .
In 2019, ThredUp partnered with JC Penney and Macy's to sell its secondhand clothing in stores. In 2020 , the company reached deals with Walmart and Gap . In March of this year , ThredUp filed for an IPO and acquired European resale company Remix in July. Its " Resale Service " program also attracted a large number of retail customers in 2021, including Farfetch , Fabletics , Madewell, and now Adidas. Adidas second hand ThredUp |
