During the holiday shopping season, 55% of online shoppers choose to buy across borders

Due to the epidemic , more and more consumers have started to buy goods online . This has also stimulated consumers to buy goods from new channels and platforms , causing cross-border shopping sales to grow exponentially.

Logistyx Technologies commissioned international market research consulting firm Censuswide to survey 2,035 online shoppers from the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, and Australia in August 2021. According to the survey, during the holiday shopping season, as many as 55% of online shoppers around the world are willing to buy holiday gifts from other countries.

“Since the pandemic began last year, online shopping has grown exponentially, and we’ve seen an increase in shoppers’ willingness to purchase items from other countries . For retailers and direct-to-consumer companies, there are some clear issues to address to achieve good sales results during this year’s holiday shopping season , ” said Geoffrey Finlay, CEO of Logistyx Technologies.

The survey results provide five issues to consider for eCommerce merchants looking to capitalize on cross-border sales during the holiday season :

1. Although consumers are interested in making cross-border purchases, almost half (48%) of consumers are also worried that their cross-border orders will not arrive in time. 69 % of online shoppers surveyed believe that providing online logistics tracking can convince them to buy holiday gifts from cross-border stores .

2. Online cross-border sellers should provide an estimated delivery time. 69% of respondents also said that this is a factor that influences their purchase decisions and helps reduce their concerns about orders not being delivered in time.

3. Similarly, consumers want a simple returns process (69%), and they don’t want the returns process to be too cumbersome, even for cross-border purchases .

4. Clarifying logistics costs and additional tariffs in advance will also affect consumers’ decisions (61%). Online buyers who are not clear about these additional costs may give negative reviews after purchase , affecting sellers’ sales .

5. The survey also shows that 60% of consumers believe that promotions during holiday sales will also become a decisive factor influencing their cross-border purchases .
